June has spent most of her career working in the non-profit arts sector. She is the former Executive Director of the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, a 501c3 non-profit corporation established by Philadelphia's Mayor and City Council to support and enhance the cultural life and vitality of the City through general operating grants.
After receiving a BS in Arts Management from Northern Arizona University, she moved to Philadelphia and has worked for the Pew Charitable Trusts, Pew Fellowships in the Arts, and the William Penn Foundation. She continued to work with individual artists as the first Executive Director of the Leeway Foundation and as the Administrative Director the Civitela Ranieri Foundation, an artist residency program located in Umbria, Italy.
Junel has served on numerous non-profit boards. She has also served as a music panelist for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. For 8 years she was Judge of Elections at her neighborhood polling place in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia and served as the choir director of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church for 5 years. She is the founder of KyoDaiko, a Japanese taiko drum group, and performed with them for 10 years. She is married to Tim Desmond, they live in Craig with their dogs Molly and Roy.
